INTRODUCTION
What is RoHS Directive?
The RoHS directive is often referred to as “Lead-Free” legislation. The proper name for RoHS is Directive 2002/95/ EC (RoHS1) and 2011/65/EU (RoHS2). The Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment. It is pronounced “Ro-Hoss”.
COMPLIANCE
When do products have to be compliant with RoHS?
The RoHS Directive goes into effect on July 1, 2006. If you are selling products on the EU market, your products must be RoHS compliant.
What hazardous substances are covered by RoHS?
- Lead (Pb) : <1000ppm
- Mercury (Hg): <1000ppm
- Cadmium (Cd): <100ppm
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr (VI)): <1000ppm
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs): <1000ppm
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs): <1000ppm
- Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): < 1000 ppm
- Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): < 1000 ppm
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): < 1000 ppm
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): < 1000 ppm
In order to comply with the EU RoHS legislation all of these substances must either be removed, or must be reduced to within maximum permitted concentrations (0.01%), in any products containing electrical or electronic components that will be sold within the European Union.
CATEGORIES
The RoHS Directive currently applies to products in categories 1-11:
Category 1. Large household appliances: refrigerators, washers, stoves, air conditioners Category 2. Small household appliances: vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, coffee makers, irons Category 3. Computing & communications equipment: computers, printers, copiers, phones Category 4. Consumer electronics: TVs, DVD players, stereos, video cameras Category 5. Lighting: lamps, lighting fixtures, light bulbs Category 6. Power tools: drills, saws, nail guns, sprayers, lathes, trimmers, blowers Category 7. Toys and sports equipment: videogames, electric trains, treadmills Category 8. Medical devices and equipment Category 9. Control and monitoring equipment Category 10. Automatic dispensers: vending machines, ATM machines Category 11. All other electrical and electronic equipment not covered by any of these categories
*All categories have some exemptions

Does KYDEX® sheet comply with the RoHS Directive?
Yes, these materials listed on the summary chart are not intentionally introduced into KYDEX® product. Therefore, KYDEX® sheet products comply with RoHS1 (2002/95/EC) and 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2).
In the future, further revisions of RoHS may create RoHS 3, 4, and so on as additional exemptions are phased out. Because SEKISUI KYDEX, LLC doesn’t utilize any of the restricted substances, KYDEX® sheet will remain compliant with these revisions.
